Expectations in national service program
On this topic, Mr. Frank offei expresses that,
In Ghana, nursing graduates often begin their careers through the National Service Program. During this period, they’re expected to apply the knowledge gained from their education to real-world healthcare settings. This involves working under the guidance of experienced nurses(staffs), providing patient care, and learning the complexity of healthcare delivery within the Ghanaian context.
He elaborated the expectations of the national service program, and also, he highlighted on “Educational opportunities in Ghana.”
Mr. Frank Offei expressed that, during your national service program, it’s a good chance to build good professional connections.
He added that “As national service personnel, nurses have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, and community health centers. While their scope of practice may be somewhat limited compared to fully licensed nurses, they still play a crucial role in delivering quality care to patients under supervision”.
What the national service personnel should expect during his/her 1yr mandatory practice (Ghana).
- You are expected to work under the hospital’s protocols
- You are expected to work under supervision by staff nurses or ward InCharge
- You should expect a monthly allowance which will be accumulated at the end of the service
- You should expect some challenges from different sources during the practice
- You are required to learn all the basic nursing skills
